“Look at your island !” Slaughter for a game. This is the real cause of the crazy maneuver the commander Francesco Schettino made Friday night at the helm of Concordia.
“All this for a favor“ said the women on the docs in the morning after the shipwreck.
Now we know what they meant..
It was not a gesture of respect for the passengers, it was ‘ just’ a a favor to a friend, a stupid courtesy made to one member of the crew.
The maneuver that caused the shipwreck was only a tribute to Mario Palombo, a legend among the Costa cruises’ commanders , and a favor to the one islander on board, the innocent maitre Antonello Tievoli.
Friday night: Tievoli, son of the old hairdresser of the Giglio island, a former restaurant owner embarked twelve years ago, is called to the master deck by Schettino, the captain, and his attendants. ”Antonello, come and see, we’re ‘over’ your island” the captain said.
Once arrived by the deck the maitre looked at the island and said:” ”Beware, we are close..very close to the shore“
Well, it was too late.
